Does a Behaviour Support Plan cost anything?

No. Behaviour support is funded through your NDIS plan under Improved Relationships or Capacity Building supports. There is no out-of-pocket cost for participants.

What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach that uses functional behaviour assessment to understand why behaviours of concern occur, then develops individualised strategies to improve quality of life and reduce reliance on restrictive practices. It is the only NDIS-funded approach for addressing behaviours of concern.

Who can access PBS through NDIS?

NDIS participants with behaviours of concern or who are subject to restrictive practices can access PBS through their NDIS plan under Improved Daily Living or Capacity Building budgets. A referral from a support coordinator, carer, or allied health professional is all that is needed to get started.

What are restrictive practices under the NDIS?

Restrictive practices are interventions that restrict a person's rights or freedom of movement, including physical, chemical, mechanical, environmental, and seclusion-based restraints. NDIS registered providers must comply with state and territory authorisation requirements and must have a Behaviour Support Plan in place.

How do I get a Behaviour Support Practitioner through NDIS?

You can request PBS funding at your next NDIS plan review, or contact Align Network directly for a referral. PBS is funded under Capacity Building — Improved Relationships in your NDIS plan. Most participants do not need to wait for a plan review if funding is already included.

How long does a behaviour support assessment take?

An interim Behaviour Support Plan is typically delivered within 4 weeks of referral. A comprehensive BSP, including full functional behaviour assessment, usually takes 3–6 months depending on complexity and access to the participant.

Can a child access Positive Behaviour Support through NDIS?

Yes. Children and young people with NDIS plans can access PBS. Behaviour Support Practitioners work collaboratively with families, schools, and carers to develop strategies that are practical and consistent across all environments.
