What Is NDIS Plan Management? A Complete Guide for 2026

Align Network 1 February 2026

What Is NDIS Plan Management?

Plan management is one of three ways you can manage your NDIS funding. When you choose plan management, a registered plan manager handles the financial administration of your NDIS plan on your behalf.

This means they:

  • Pay your service providers directly from your NDIS funding
  • Track your budget across all support categories
  • Process claims and invoices so you don't have to
  • Provide monthly statements showing where your funding has been spent

How Much Does Plan Management Cost?

Nothing. Plan management is funded by the NDIS as a separate line item in your plan. It does not reduce your other supports. The NDIA recognises that plan management helps participants get better value from their plans.

Who Should Use Plan Management?

Plan management is ideal if you:

  • Want to choose from a wider range of providers (including unregistered providers)
  • Don't want the administrative burden of self-management
  • Want real-time visibility of your budget
  • Want expert guidance on how to use your funding effectively

How to Get Plan Management in Your NDIS Plan

If your current plan doesn't include plan management, you can request it at your next plan review. You can also contact the NDIA directly to request a plan variation. Many participants find that having a plan manager helps them get more from their plan.
